Why LED Grow Lights?

Hydroponics has evolved from a delicate art into a precise science as more and more gardeners and growers realize the utility of indoor gardening. It is possible to grow full, healthy plants of nearly any strain without soil provided you put enough nutrients into the mixture and provide your plants with high quality light. Led grow lights have become the standard issue for hydroponics in recent years as amateur and professional botanists develop their grow patches with the strong, concentrated light sources. Whatever you are interested in growing in your home, ranging from apricots to zucchini, these LED grow light reviews can help you attain beautiful green harvests with only a few supplies.

The market for this type of lighting is pushing the technology further and further along. Twenty to thirty years ago, LED lights were only used for over-winter treatment of plants and had a small following. Today, you can find dozens of different brands and hundreds of experts who will suggest the ideal set-up for your plants. These lights have overcome their growth pains and are one of the most effective means of growing a good garden.

What are the advantages of using an LED source?

LED stands for light-emitting diode, an electronic apparatus that produces energy across the visible, ultraviolet, and infrared spectrum wavelengths. While humans can only see in the standard color scheme of red to violet, an LED bulb can produce energy that is concentrated or dilute enough that we cannot perceive it — but make no mistake, it is there! A standard high-wattage HID light, the sort that you would find in the lamp right next to you, only produces white or yellow light on the color spectrum. That is fine for reading or doing a crossword puzzle, but it is a poor power source for plants as it provides less of the wavelengths of energy needed for good photosynthesis.

LED is not just about a plant’s benefit either. The power needed to keep a standard issue HID bulb going is excessive due to the fact that it needs to create heat in order to have the light shine. This heat is extremely wasteful, simply evaporating into the air and taking up much more power than the actual light itself projects. LED lights do not use the coils of a bulb and produce no heat, meaning that none of the electricity is sucked away and your power bills are far cheaper. LED grow light reviews often have statistics about how much energy is saved; the figure tends to be around 75%.

It sounds odd to think that natural sunlight would not be the best light for your plant growth, but it is true. Sunlight is white light (just like the inefficient bulb of that lamp) and contains all the colors of the spectrum. Plants cannot use the darker colors, meaning that they are refracted back as color (hence the green pigment of all plant matter). An LED light, on the other hand, uses a limited range instead, often reds, oranges, and blues. This increases the chemical production of photosynthesis and results in more plant food. It must be noted, however, that the change in lighting also requires a change in growing procedure, including the water intake, the plant fertilizer, and the daily cycle of light and dark.

LED grow light reviews all agree that no other system is better for raising great plants. Whether you are an aspiring horticulturalist or have never had a green thumb, using these light fixtures for your growth offers a much better chance of large yields, quality harvests, and beautiful, healthy plants.
